Wow, You guys are quick on the comment takedowns. I'll remember that for next time.
Very impressive! Does it have reticules for safe action or customizable reference, and could it be upgraded to 4:4:4 in the future?
There is another NAB video on the Sound Devices PIX 240 at soundandpictureonline
Hi jhangus,
We do not moderate or alter posts unless they are spam, profane in nature or contain links to competitors sites. I find an earlier post from you under the Nomad video. Could this be the one you thought missing?
We are well aware of the audio problems within some of our videos from NAB. In an effort to get videos to you as quickly as possible, we relied on a consumer grade camera (iphone 4) which did not allow for confidence monitoring. We did test for audio input capabilities prior, but the unit obviously couldn't tolerate the consistent use we required of it. Although we had our backup prosumer rig there, we were short on time to reshoot once the audio problems were discovered. We chose to post the videos as we felt their content merited such.
Hello Jane,
I can appreciate the trials of making deadlines and getting a customer a final product ASAP. Everyone waits to see the latest offerings from NAB and your customers really do want the information.
That said, you must know your primary customers are a bunch of "geeky" sound professionals that expect a base level of sound quality that an iPhone wouldn't normally produce (BTW...surprised that the Prosumer rig was the backup over the iPhone?).
So, it sounds like you guys realize this year's video/audio @ NAB wasn't great. I'm glad to her you say that and I'll expect better quality from you guys in the future. Cheers, JHANGUS
Hello,
Jane, Tyler and Rob...
Just wanted to say that despite the audio issues you guys had, your videos were informative and to the point. Its understandable that equipment failure happens, especially at the consumer/prosumer level. You still managed to provide the community with info and a hands on look at products they may have missed at the show or in the event they were unable to attend...
Again, good job...
Kieran
Thank you Kieran. We'll do better next year.
So, if we could focus on the product for a moment, do you know if it has reticule(s) for safe action or customizable reference, and could it be upgraded to 4:4:4 in the future? Does it have the ability to display 1:1 pixel mapping?
I really wasn't upset about your audio problems on the pieces, but I did allow myself the luxury of an ironic smile when I saw the mic you were using wasn't the one I was hearing. Those of us that do location work day in and out feel your pain when something doesn't work out as expected.
Tim,
Thanks for your comments. Sound Devices heard a lot of these types of questions at NAB directly from interested users. Here's is a brief reply from Sound Devices: "Since we have a 5" LCD monitor with 800x480 pixels, it would seem like a logical step to add specific LCD monitor functions like 1:1 pixel mapping, peaking, reticules etc. We are evaluating this functionality - the PIX's 336 core processor allows us a great deal of flexibility."
So, I think that the short answer to your question(s) is simply, not at this time. However, it also seems that Sound Devices benefited much from the NAB showing and we'll have to wait and see what they squeeze into the box.
Rob M.
I sincerely hope they do, with the amazing efficiency of using this multi-functional box the monitor should be as pro as the rest. We have multiple delivery formats, so being able to follow compositional strategies like "common top" or "center punch" for legacy SD streams, or shooting wider than 16:9 is crucial. Tacky to have to put tape all over the nice monitor. Being able to check critical focus with 1:1 is also essential when this small monitor is the only one there.
how much is the pix 240?
The current price for the Pix 240 is: $2595.00USD.
Thanks for one more excellent write-up. The place else may any individual get that type of data in this ideal means of publishing? I have a powerpoint presentation next few days, with this particular at the search for similarly info.
